We supply aluminized steel products for a host of end-use applications. Aluminized steel is carbon steel coated, through the hot-dip process, with an aluminum-silicon alloy. This process assures a tight metallurgical bond between the steel sheet and its aluminum coating, producing material with a unique combination of properties as compared to steel or aluminum alone.

Aluminized steel can be made using a variety of processes, but the most effective process is hot dipping. The process of hot dipping starts by cleaning the steel, placing it in a bath of aluminum and silicone (Type 1) or aluminum only (Type 2), and then removing it, allowing the coated steel to air dry.

Electro-Galvanized Steel is a zinc coated metal that is produced through an electrochemical process. The process involves steel being immersed in a cold zinc bath. An electrical current is run through the bath. This process is also called electroplating.

Conversion coatings are applied to the steel to enhance the corrosion resistance. The coating builds up an additional layer of zinc as well as chromium hydroxides. This results in the blue tinted finish commonly associated with the steel.

Benefits of electro-galvanized include higher corrosion resistance, higher performance, a readily paintable surface, and formability.

Galvanized steel is a hot-dipped coated metal that provides customers with better resistance to corrosive environments.

To create galvanized steel, cold rolled steel is submerged into a molten zinc bath, known as the hot-dip process (galvanization can also be achieved through continuous galvanizing). When the material is removed from the zinc bath and cooled a reaction to the oxygen in the air occurs. The reaction causes the zinc coating to become part of the steel creating the well-recognized spangled finish.

Galvannealed steel is created by a hot-dip coating process. The process produces a uniform zinc coating on both sides of the product. Immediately after the hot-dip process, the metal is exposed to a heat treatment that allows the iron from the base metal to further diffuse into the zinc, creating a zinc-iron alloy layer.

This results in the non-spangled finish, unlike galvanized steel. The matte finish makes the material suitable for painting.
